UDI Inspiration Challenge #73

Hi there stamping buds! Welcome to another week of fabulous inspiration challenges from the UDI Blog! I love being part of this design team because it really stretches me as a stamper and paper crafter. This week's photo really spoke to me about warmth, home, elegance and abundance. I started to do a scrapbook page with a particular photo of my daughter laying under the tree a few years back. BUT, you know what they say about the best laid plans - well, I couldn't find the photo to use it, so in football terms, I punted~!

The gold wrapped gift at the bottom center of the photo really stood out to me and I thought how fun it would be to do something 3-D based on that box. So.......here is the final result........

What do you think? Do I need to go back and make that scrapbook page?
Well, I probably will, but for now, let me tell you about the box. I am very happy with the final result and I so wish you could see all the glowing shimmer that is there in real life.

I started with a piece of 12 x 12 Real Red cardstock and scored it at 4" on all 4 sides. I then cut out all four corner pieces and put them in my scrap file to use another time.
I took out my Christmas Cocoa DSP and used the fine striped gold shimmer paper. I cut four squares at 3 3/4" square then used my Vintage Ornament Stencils to stencil the ornament on each piece. The ornament is done in Real Red ink and the design and hanger is done with Gold Encore ink. It goes on very well with the Sponge Daubers and I held the stencils in place using Dotto.
These panels were attached with SNAIL adhesive to the Real Red Cardstock.
Next, I tackled the bow/ribbon.
Yes, this is SU! ribbon, but it is LOOONG retired! I just can't get rid of anything!

I used about a yard or so of the Wide Gold Organdy Ribbon to make the bow, a la my Mom. I couldn't tell you how to do this if I tried, but fortunately, I did learn by watching her umpteen million times. She can make a bow out of anything! AND make it look good too!
The ends of the ribbon were wrapped around the box lid and secured inside with Sticky Strip. I made a little tag by stamping one of the ornaments from Delightful Decorations on Very Vanilla cardstock with Real Red ink. It's punched out with the Ornament Punch and tied on to the bow with Gold Cord (the retired one - trying to use it up too!)
What's that? I didn't tell you how to make the lid? Oh, well, let me do that!

The lid is a piece of 8 1/2" x 8 1/2" Real Red cardstock. It's scored at 2 1/8" AND 1" on all four sides, then it's cut like an H on the 2 1/8" score lines. Don't cut out the corners!
Just straight cuts up to the 2 1/8" score line on opposite sides of the box top. Try it on xerox paper first so you don't mess up your cardstock, ok?
Once you have your cuts made, fold the score lines first on the 1" line then again on the 2 1/8" side. You will see that the cuts you made actually create folded 'tabs' that you fold inward. The other scored folds fold over the tabs and you have your box top! Just secure it with Sticky Strip and you are good to go! The lids' finished size across the top is 4 1/4" square, so the dsp I cut to cover it is 4" square and is adhered with SNAIL.

Now for the surprise inside!

Not as yummy as chocolate filling, but pretty, doncha think? I just used 5 squares of Christmas Cocoa dsp cut at 3 3/4" square. These were all sponged on the edges with Real Red ink and adhered with more SNAIL. I plan to put some family photos from last weekend in there and add a greeting on the bottom panel. Wouldn't that be a great 3-D Christmas Card for a family member or friend?

Hopefully, I've inspired you today with this fun project as well as captured the essence of the photo as well. Leave me some comment love and let me know what you think, ok? And we at the UDI Blog would love to see your creation with this photo too! If you take the challenge, be sure to use keyword Diva IC73 in your upload if you use a public gallery. And then leave a comment on the UDI Blog giving us a link to your creation!
Have fun today and be sure to stop back by tomorrow for a fun Blast from the Past and a quick easy project that is so IN right now! .... That's all the hint you'll get....
Stamped Blessings,
~~Robin
