Punch Frame Tutorial

Hi Stampers! Since it's Saturday, I thought that you might have a little time to play around with your stampin' stuff. I'd had a few folks ask me how I did the punch frame from this card on Thursday, so I took a few photos and did a little tutorial for you!

You start with a piece of cardstock cut at 4 3/4" square.
Insert it into the Decorative Label Punch so you can see the cardstock through the window. I do almost all of my punching that way, makes it so much easier! Be sure to center it as best you can.

When you insert the cardstock, don't go all the way in, just about 3/4". (To be honest, I didn't measure, but eyeballed it. If you are a precision kind of stamper, you can always mark your cardstock with a light pencil mark and go off of that.)

Turn your cardstock 1/4 turn and insert it into the punch again until you get something that looks like this:

Turn it another 1/4 turn and repeat. Your punch and cardstock should look like this:

Here's the last one. Turn your cardstock another 1/4 turn. The punch and cardstock should look like this:

This is your finished frame.

This one turned out with pointier spikes on the inside than on my original card, but it really depends on how deep you insert the cardstock into the punch.

Here's another example:

This time, insert the 4 3/4" square piece of cardstock all the way into the punch until it stops, centering the punch on the cardstock.

There's your first punched space.

Turn the cardstock 1/2 turn - punching opposite your first space. Be sure to insert the cardstock all the way until it stops.

Now, it looks like this:

Insert the cardstock into one of the other sides, all the way in and punch again.
Repeat on the opposite side.

Now you have a finished frame that looks like this:

That's the difference the depth makes, two completely different frames! You could easily do a rectangle, maybe even an octagon. The fun is in the trying to see what you can come up with!

Have fun with this and be sure to leave me a comment and show me your frames!

Happy Stamping!
~~Robin
