Beautiful Banners Scrapbook Pages

Did you know that I originally began stamping because I wanted to scrapbook?
It's true!
In fact, the first products I ever purchased from Stampin' Up! were items to create Emma's baby book. That was 16 years ago - and in true scrapbooker fashion, I'm still not finished with it.

As you can see from the photos on these pages, she's grown a bit.
Yeah. They do that, don't they?

The pages I'm sharing today we created in my January Oh Scrap! class and the photos are from a fun day trip to Carytown in Richmond. Emma's skating team skated a competition that morning and we decided to make a day of it visiting the fun, funky vintage shops and eating a late lunch at the Galaxy Diner. 

 I used 12 x 12 Basic Black cardstock for the background pages and added pieces of Real Red Co'ordinations cardstock for the first layer.
The heart is the Flowerfull Heart stamp embossed with Pool Party embossing powder. I love how the texture of the cardstock gives the stamped image additional interest.

The photos are mounted on pieces of Whisper White cardstock and I used Coastal Cabana from the In Colors Designer Series Paper Stack for the 12" x 1" border pieces.
The shorter borders are done with Silver Glimmer Paper and Crumb Cake Cardstock. The punched border is done with the Scalloped Edge Border Punch.

On the left side page, I added one Coastal Cabana Boutique Detail embellishment on the outer edge - just the thing to set off the Fresh Prints Designer Paper Banners. They were created using the new Banners Framelits - which I LOVE, by the way! They are a MUST own product.

The right side page has three more banners and a knotted piece of Basic Black Chevron ribbon as a final accent.
I don't always include a formal journaling block on my pages. Oftentimes, I journal freehand in the open areas on my layout. It adds a bit more personality and lends some informality to the pages that I really prefer in my own scrapbooking.

Spring Flowers - Embossed 2 Ways

I'm so ready for some Spring flowers!
Aren't you??
This snow and ice we've been experiencing is not doing a whole lot for my disposition. I'm ready for some blue skies and sunshine.
So what do you do on the days you don't have that?
You make your own!
This is one of the cards I created for my Best of Sale-A-Bration class last month.

I stamped the focal image with Versamark ink and clear embossed it with my heat tool. Using sponge daubers, I rubbed Crushed Curry and Pear Pizzazz ink over the embossed image to make it pop off the card.
It's layered on a piece of Pear Pizzazz cardstock and I added a piece of Gold Baker's Twine to a Vintage Button for an accent.

The layers underneath are Afternoon Picnic Designer Paper layered on Chocolate Chip cardstock. The top layer of Very Vanilla cardstock was dry embossed with the Wildflower Meadow embossing folder and sponged over with Crumb Cake ink to bring out the design.
All in all a pretty simple card, but sweet and kinda vintage too.
Just my style.

Mixed Elements Card

When I sit down to create, most of the time, I have no idea what direction I'm headed in with a project.
I begin with one element, sometimes it's a piece of cardstock, a ribbon, an embellishment like a button. Sometimes, I create based on what I know I have handy and need to use up (and have enough of for all my class attendees!) It's really pretty random.

So, last week, when I went into my studio to make cards for my Best of 25 Class, I began with a piece of Primrose Petals Co'ordinations cardstock - because I have a LOT of it for some reason.
And it's pretty, so it's a win-win!

Here's the completed card:

I love mixing elements and textures on a project - a touch of the unexpected keeps art interesting. On this project, I mixed the delicate gold embossing with the rough texture of the burlap ribbon. The very masculine Naturals Button is a contrast to the rosy hue of the cardstock and the whimsical polka dot designer paper. But it all comes together really, really well.

I stamped my focal images from the Best of Sale-A-Bration stamp set on Naturals White cardstock with Versamark ink and embossed them with Gold embossing powder. The cardstock is sponged with Crumb Cake ink before being mounted on the polka dot paper. That entire section is mounted to the card base with Stampin' Dimensionals.

I used the Daydream Medallion stamp set to stamp and emboss the lacy circles on the card base. I love the delicate touch it adds to the card.
Little bits of leftover ribbon were used under the button and I used some burlap strings to tie into the button itself.

Well, we're expecting about 8 inches of snow here today, so that's perfect weather to get into the studio and stamp something fun. I'm having knee surgery on Thursday, so I'm trying to get ahead of my schedule a bit. I'm not sure stamping on pain meds would work out too well.
Or, maybe it would - you never know!

Peachy Keen Card for You!

Good morning everyone!

Just popping in to share a card project that my friend Amy Storrie created.

Sweet and Simple Baby Card

Today's the Day!

The annual Stampin' Up! Leadership Conference kicks off in Houston, TX. WooHoo!
Um, not.
(Insert pouty face here)
No, this year I'll be enjoying all the excitement from my smartphone Facebook feed. Life is full of tough choices and this year, I had to make one of them and chose to travel to Boston this week to be with Emma and her skating team as they compete.

And ya know what? As much as I'll miss seeing so many of my amazing friends, I would have missed being with my girl SO much more! I've only got her under my roof full time for 2 1/2 more years and I don't want to miss a minute with her.
That's one of the beautiful things about my job - it's my schedule, not someone else's.
The last time I missed one of Emma's competitions was for Leadership Conference in Phoenix, AZ. I remember sitting in the hotel bar with my laptop and about 15 of my closest friends watching her team skate that evening. I couldn't have physically gotten from Phoenix to Boston in time to be there in person so the live feed was it and the hotel bar was the only place that had WiFi back then.

I remember thinking - never again. 
So, while I wish all my SU! friends safe travels and fun times - I get to be where I need and want to be the most - with my girl.

The card today is for my swap group the GoDivas (as in chocolate!). They will all be getting this one in the mail in a few days, but YOU get to see it first!
I used the girl baby shoes stamp from the new Baby, We've Grown! stamp set from the Occasions Mini for my focal image. The oh, so versatile watercolor splash stamp from the Happy Watercolor stamp set creates a soft pink wash for the background.

The little flags are cut out of Designer Paper from the Soho Subway and Venetian Romance packs and I made my own designer paper for the last one. It's the new Woodgrain background stamp in Soft Suede on Blushing Bride cardstock. Cool, huh?
I cut out the flags with my Big Shot and the NEW Banners Framelits dies.
These will be a favorite - just buy them now, you'll thank me later. 

I stamped my focal image on Watercolor Paper and cut them out with the Window Frames Framelits Dies. It was sponged with Crumb Cake ink using slave labor from my daughter. (Hey, I'm missing leadership for her - it's the least she can do, right??)

The background was done with Primrose Petals Co'ordinations Cardstock, dry embossed with the Polka-Dot folder and my Big Shot. I wrapped it with a piece of Burlap Ribbon that I trimmed off the edges and pulled some strands out of to make it more rough. Finishing touches of an Antique Button and some of the NEW yummy Gold Baker's Twine made me smile. How about you?
