Stamping 411 Saturday Sketch Challenge - and a Bonus!

Wow, what a week it's been! So glad you guys are hanging in there with me - I hate not posting like I regularly do, but I have had a lot of time in the car to PLAN projects, does that count? haha!
Just a quick update, my Dad is stable and we are still in a wait and see period regarding his surgery. Long story short, he has a hole in his gall bladder, it needs to come out, but his heart isn't strong enough for him to survive the surgery - scary stuff, but we know that God is in control and will take care of it in His time. That, and praying friends like you are my greatest source of comfort, so thank you!

So here we are with another fabulous sketch from Stamping 411 - Selene does a marvelous job creating these sketches for us and I love how they stretch me creatively. This one seemed very simple at the outset, but once I started working on my card, it went in a totally different direction than I'd planned - NOT that this ever happens to you, but I think some of you might be able to relate! :)
Here is this week's sketch:

Oh yes, I almost forgot, I gave myself the additional challenge of incorporating Patti's Color Challenge from the 411 this week as well! If you read her blog entry, she talked about seeing Robin's outside her window and you know I HAD to play along! Now she can see a Robin on her computer screen too! heehee....

Actually, it was this color challenge that sent me on my creative detour - I was thinking cutesy and springy but if you look at the finished card - it's anything but!

Yep! I told you so, it's definitely different! But I REALLY like it!
I call this style Neo-Bordello - ok, maybe not, but what then should I call it? Any suggestions?
Here, take another look: I know, ooooooh, sparkly!

In retrospect, I think I would change one thing on this - MAYBE - and that would be to put Basic Black behind my greeting. But then again, I might not because it might make it look too....hmmm....serious (or morbid) and I definitely don't want that look! Well, maybe some of you crazy Twilight people might like that black there and maybe change the greeting to something not involving your Mother, but I'm really digressing here, eh?

Actually, this is the perfect time to mention that I have a friend in Arizona - Diana - and she is one of those crazy Twilight people (I still love ya Di!). Well, we got into an e-mail discussion about Twilight vs. Pride and Predjudice on Thursday night (actually it was about the male leads, but that information reveals my secret crush and I can't put THAT on here - well, I guess I just did!). Anyway, I contended that P&P and that certain Mr. Darcy in his rain scene and the sunrise scene at the end beats the heck out of Mr. white-face vampire boy any day. Di disagreed with me as any self-respecting Robert fan would do - but it did make her dust off her copy of P&P to watch it again! Yeah, it's just the best movie EVER! Guess that makes me a crazy P&P person, huh?
Now, don't go all hatin' on me if you are a Twilight fan, just love me anyway because my heart belongs to Darcy......I mean MARK!~ That's my wonderful hubby. Yeah. :)

Oh, hey, I was talking about a CARD here wasn't I?
Guess I'd better get on with it, huh?
And to make it easy, I'll put my supply list at the bottom of this post along with measurements for the cardstock and paper, ok?

So, starting with the folded card base I used the swooshy stencil from the Decor Elements Vintage Ornaments I set to create the super cool background. I simply laid it on the Rose Red cardstock and used my Sponge Dauber to add Basic Black Craft ink to it. (The craft ink is more opaque and looked better against the darker cardstock.) The swoosh was done twice, just turning it the opposite way for the other corner. I didn't heat set it, but just let it dry while I worked on the layers, greeting and embellishment.

My layers are pieces of Regal Rose and Basic Black cardstock, a piece of Old Olive Patterns DSP and that yummy-licious Old Olive Satin Ribbon! Love it!
I wrapped the ribbon around the three paper layers and secured it on the back, then attached them to the card front.

I tied one of those fun poofy bows and then got out my Pretties kit and used the elements to make my hat pin. I actually ran the pin through the bow and then added the bottom two pieces and end cap. It's attached with Stampin' Dimensionals to the card front. Next I added the greeting that was stamped with Teeny Tiny Wishes in Rose Red ink then punched out with the Word Window punch. It's layered on a piece of Regal Rose punched out with the Modern Label punch then popped up on more dimensionals.

For the final touch, I got out my spray on hand-sanitizer mixed with Champagne Mist Shimmer Paint and spritzed it all over the front of the card. It came out a little fast, but can we have too much bling? I think not. And if it gets on your hands - bonus! You have shimmery clean hands!

So that's it for this one! I know this turned out to be a really long post, but I think I've been away too long and I just wanted to talk to my friends! I've missed you!
Now, if you are still awake, go check out what the other Stamping 411 Operators did with this sketch and then it's your turn to play along, ok? We LOVE seeing your creations every week! And this week is special because we have a brand new Operator on our team - Kerin Sylvester! She is an amazing stamper and we felt she would have something different and fun to bring to the stamping table! So be sure to give her a warm welcome, ok?

Stamped hugs,
~~Robin
