UDI Inspiration Challenge - Bread and Friendship

I have to open up this blog post by saying HI! to my friend Angie. I discovered while talking with her in choir rehearsal (yes, while we were supposed to be singing - it's no fun if you aren't getting in trouble!) that she reads my blog. This may not surprise many of you who visit me here often, but you see, Angie doesn't stamp. Nope, not at all! Probably not even on a bet! She says she didn't inherit one iota of her Mom's crafty gene and is content to keep it that way. But, in spite of it all, she is still one of my besties and hey, at least she likes what I make for her! So when she told me that she checks out the first paragraph or so to see if it's all stamping stuff, or if there is personal stuff (that's apparently the deciding factor for her to read further) I decided that I needed to send her a shout out. Maybe she'll even read far enough into this post to see the super cute project I made on Wednesday.....
Oh yeah, here's the close up photo - check out the glittery cupcakes!

Now, here's the inspiration photo from our challenge Mom, Maria over at the UDI Blog.

It looks so yummy - yep, I could toast up a piece, smother it in real butter and chow down, but that's not exactly our challenge now is it? I was actually kind of stumped about how to proceed with a paper project that reflects this photo because I don't have any BREAD stamps and I don't have any WHEAT stamps and I don't have any BASKET stamps, well not SU! anyway. So my thoughts turned to eating, feasting and cooking. The eating comes very naturally to me, but the cooking, not so much. It's a chore to me.
If you do read here very often, you know that I don't cook much. I need to go on record that I DO know how to cook - and very well actually - but Mark enjoys it so much more than I do and since it relaxes him to some degree, my philosophy on the subject is that he can have at it!
But anyway, since I was kind of stuck on cooking, I decided to make a little recipe card gift set for my project. Take a look:

Isn't it adorable?! Yes, I know I made it myself, but I just loved how it turned out, especially when I had no real plan or end result in mind. I tried to stick with the colors in the inspiration photo, but the Cherry Cobbler ink and ribbon was screaming to be used here and really, it would make a nice little Christmas gift for a neighbor or co-worker. You could tuck in a gift card to some cooking store like umm, yeah, Food Lion! - listen, if it was a recipe for fashion, I'm all over it, but cooking, again, not so much!

So, I made the box with Crumb Cake cardstock and the Fancy Favor Die with the Perfect Polka-Dots Impressions folder and my Big Shot. I assembled it with Sticky Strip and added the Old Olive 1 1/4" Striped Grosgrain Ribbon. It's layered with some Cherry Cobbler Seam Binding and then I added the fun little tag with some Stampin' Dimensionals. It's stamped on Naturals White and Whisper White and punched out with the Large Scallop Circle punch and the 1 3/4" Circle punch. And yes, the center circle is popped up with dimensionals and glittered to boot.

The recipe cards are stamped in Cherry Cobbler ink with the card stamp from the From the Kitchen Of stamp set. I cut them at 5" x 3" and used my Stamp-A-Ma-Jig to line them all up straight. Each card has the section it belongs in stamped on Crumb Cake and punched out with the 1 1/4" Circle punch. They are popped up on a dimensional. My sections are Breads (because of the inspiration photo), Desserts (that's the Chocolate part - HA!) and Misc. (which is in my opinion, best used for yummy dips and appetizers because I really love stuff like that!). I made the dividers with pieces of Cherry Cobbler cardstock cut at 3" x 5 1/4" and added the tabs with punches from my Round Tab Punch. I did stamp them with my Totally Tabs stamp set to make them cute.

I made 12 cards and 3 dividers, but I think the box would hold 12 - 16 more cards with 3 - 4 more dividers nicely. I will probably add more before I give it away this Christmas. What, you didn't think I had recipes to put in it, did you?!!

Be sure to check out the UDI blog and see what the other design team members created this week. I know you'll be inspired!

Have a great Thursday - go stamp something!

  4. Very flattered by the special mention in the blog, Robin! I will admit that if I was to think long and hard about a project involving bread, wheat, etc my mind would eventually drift to cupcakes as well. This is a really cute idea and turned out very well! Kudos to your creativity!

  5. Very nice Robin. You did a good job and I am there with you on the cooking. Thanksgiving and Christmas are my two major cooking events. Otherwise, it is my husband who does the cooking! Thanks for sharing.
